The cleaning ( conserving) of the Ganga will ultimately depend on our ability to learn from the past expereinces in this endeavour. Simply a technical plan will not be sufficient.

The pollution of water in India due to lack of sanitation system is one of the major hundernace in economic progress.A study conducted by Water and Sanitation Program’s (WSP’s) estimates that the total economic impacts of inadequate sanitation in India amounts to Rs. 2.44 trillion (US$53.8 billion) a year1—this was the equivalent of 6.4 percent of India’s GDP in 2006.This means a per person annual impact of Rs. 2,180 (US$48).2

Its official (Parliamentary) report about Ganga Action Plan submitted in 2004.It is based on report submitted by Comptroller and Audictor general of India in 2000. Public accounts committee have given recomndations and critical feedbacks to Institutions responsible for facilitation of Ganga Action Plan ( GAP). A very scientific report with lots of facts , figures and ground realities of this Plan.
