River Basin is more suitable unit for analytical and planning purposes in environmental management. This term refers to the land area drained by a river and its tributaries. In this article Kenneth J. Gregory and Andrew Brookes have described very well the terminology being used in land and water management. Different terms are being used because of the involvement of different disciplines and contexts. There are 21 different approaches and the components of all of these different approaches are analyzed in this text. Five interrelated facets of integrated basin management are identified as water, channel, land, ecology, and human activity.
